Hello All,

An electronic portfolio, also known as an e-portfolio, is a collection of electronic evidence assembled and managed by a student, usually on the Web. In this case, we are talking about Rhodes Middle School Technology Students E-Portfolio Webpage on Rhodes’ Website. E-portfolios are both demonstrations of the student’s abilities and platforms for self-expression that can be maintained dynamically over time.

By clicking on a student’s name you will find their E-portfolio, using Cascade Style Sheets in Dreamweaver, a stylesheet language used to define colors, fonts, layout, and other aspects of web development.

The students first created their own logo based on the meaning of their name and chose their primary and secondary colors in Fireworks to define the theme of their e-portfolio.

Projects created in Fireworks, Flash, moviemaker, imovie and PowerPoint are linked to their perspective pages.

I have introduced the concept of Digital Storytelling to my students. Digital Storytelling is a fantastic way to engage students, teachers and just about anyone else who has ever wanted to be the next Ken Burns or Steven Spielberg. There are many different definitions of “digital storytelling,” but in general, all of them revolve around the idea of combining the longstanding art of telling stories with any of a variety of available multimedia tools, including graphics, audio, video animation, and Web publishing.

Please scroll all the way down to the Digital Storytelling section and listen how Nestor saved his Dad’s Life, or how Kristian’s vacation in Mexico turned out. Go to the GT Showcase Portfolio page, click on: A 7th grade Math - Desktop Publishing project: Archimedes Math Project - A Digital Story Telling Project , that was created in Ms. Tenientes class & my lab at Rhodes M.S.

I will be constantly updating these pages during the year for your enjoyment. I have found that web publishing student e-portfolios encourages the reluctant writer, strengthens their self-confidence, rewards interest and promotes a positive attitude toward learning, creating and is a unique way for them to demonstrate their knowledge.

Thanks for all that you do,
Mr. Ray Palencia Jr.
Rhodes MS Instructor / Web Coordinator
