Rebekah Kelman, a Rhodes Scholar has made quite a name for herself. The Rhodes Community is very proud of her, we knew she was going to do well for herself when she left Rhodes MS for Jefferson HS. Her brother Isaac is a current student at Rhodes and is very proud of his big sister.
Rebekah Kelman is a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School and will graduate valedictorian of her class. She is a member of the National Honor Society, a National Hispanic Scholar and an AP Scholar. Miss Kelman has competed in the Academic Decathlon as an Honors (A-team) student and has placed at several competitions, district, and regionally. She has been involved in Interact, Dram Club, senior class activities and photojournalism. As a co-op student, she works the second half of her school day. Miss Kelman plans to study electrical and computer engineering in the fall.
The Magnet Program at Rhodes Middle School offers advanced technology courses for middle school students. The goal of the program is to prepare middle school students for high school technology courses, provide a college preparatory environment, and encourage the pursuit of a career in technology.
Many of our Magnet students presented their projects at the District GT Showcase at Lanier HS on May 4, 2007.
See you there!

The 2006 - 2007 Rhodes Middle School Yearbook captures all of the fun, friends and memories Rhodes students will want to remember for a lifetime.
The Yearbook Sponsor - Mr. Ray S. Palencia Jr’s goal is to make the yearbook process fun and rewarding as the Yearbook Staff creates a well designed yearbook to be treasured. The yearbook staff includes: the Editor-in-Chief, photographers, section editors, sales managers and many staff members.
A yearbook takes a lot of careful planning. The editors met with Mr. Palencia to plan the content of the book at the beginning of the year. The editors then met with other student members of the yearbook staff to discuss their ideas, obtain suggestions for a running theme and determine assignments.
The Rhodes Middle School Yearbook was conceptualized, design and created on Adobe Pagemaker 7 - a professional desktop publishing application. All photos were captured on Digital Cameras and edited in Fireworks MX – a professional photo editing application. This real world experience is the essence of what can be achieved by students that have the will to learn and the technological skill to apply their digital knowledge – creatively!

My Electronic Portfolio of Student Products
Student Products are created by 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at Rhodes Middle School, SAISD's Technology Magnet School. With a well rounded knowledge of file formats and an arsenal of programs, students can create desktop publishing, web sites, digital graphics, Flash animations and video production movie products. All of which are created using industry standard programs and equipment. Research has found that educational technology, when used effectively, can significantly improve teaching and learning.
My Educational Technology Philosophy
Students must be able to use technology effectively in order to learn and work successfully in an increasingly complex and information-rich society. Within an enriched educational environment, technology can enable students to become: Productive information technology users, Problem solvers and higher order thinkers, Creative and effective users of productivity tools, Communicators, collaborators, publishers, and producers, Informed, responsible, and contributing citizens. Please enjoy their creative academic work.
